LAGOA

Lagoa is one of the Algarve's most important tourist destinations and is internationally renowned for its breathtaking beaches. Some of the Algarve's, Portugal's and even the world's most spectacular beaches are located in this municipality.
Today, Lagoa still preserves many traces of its past, including its traditional whitewashed houses with distinctive Algarve chimneys. While fishing was once the municipality's main economic activity, tourism is now its leading industry, alongside its internationally acclaimed white wine production.
One of Lagoa's most beautiful parishes is Carvoeiro, home to magnificent beaches such as Carvoeiro Beach and Vale Centeanes Beach, both famous for their calm crystal-clear blue waters.
Archaeological evidence shows that Lagoa has been inhabited since the Neolithic period.
Four parishes are particularly worth visiting: Porches, Carvoeiro, Benagil and Ferragudo.
Over thousands of years, marine erosion has shaped unique rock formations along Lagoa's coastline, creating hidden beaches, tunnels and sea caves. Among the most remarkable are Algar Seco and the famous Benagil Cave.
